How the UKYABA Longlist and Shortlist came together…

We are thrilled to be announcing our longlist for the UKYA Blogger Awards this
17 January 2018 followed by the shortlist on the 19 January 2018.

As you know UKYABA is about celebrating UKYA book bloggers. The awards were set up in recognition of the support, publicity and appreciation given to authors and publishers by the book-blogging community.

This year we felt was an opportunity to share with you a bit more about how the awards come together. UKYABA is a combination of the UKYA Blogger Awards started by author Andy Robb and the UKYA Book Blogger Awards, designed by blogger Faye Rogers (Daydreamer’s Thoughts). Now run by the YA Shot team that means we have a lot of developing for the 2018 awards but sometimes it’s hard to know exactly how things will work until you’re doing them.

We think it’s important to be open so everyone knows how it works. As such, here is how we’ve dealt with issues that cropped up during the nominations process and how the longlist and shortlist for the UKYA Blogger Awards were decided.

Shortlist stipulations:

  • Bloggers who have announced they’re on hiatus and have not been blogging for the previous 3+ months have been excluded from the shortlist
  • Bloggers who are not specifically book bloggers but instead post occasional book posts have been excluded from the shortlist if they have not blogged regularly on books in the previous 3+ months
  • previous years’ winners have been excluded from the shortlist of a category they have won in previous UKYA Blogger Awards (but not categories they haven’t previously won!)

In cases of equal nomination scores we dealt with tie-breakers by removing nominees who are shortlisted in 2 other categories. Book Bloggers with multiple nominations across categories were shortlisted in the 2 categories they received the most nominations for. Important: The Marvellous Blogger Award category is an exception to this rule. As an exclusively blogger-only voted category we did not include it in tie-breaker situations.

All the Book Bloggers announced have been verified to the best of our ability.

To ensure that UKYA Book Blogger Awards is transparent throughout and to resolve tiebreaker situations we canvassed input from our independent monitors.

Once we announce the shortlist we’ll also confirm the details for how you can vote.

Remember UKYABA is on Saturday 14th April 2018 after YAShot finishes.

We hope to see you there.
